Since it’s Valentine’s Day, here is a quick education moment using the word VALENTINE — and how we can “VALENTINE” our businesses this year. 

Here’s what each letter stands for: 

  • V – Value
  • A – Ask
  • L – Listen
  • E – Empathy
  • N – Network Intentionally
  • T – Testimonials
  • I – Improve
  • N – Nurture
  • E – Execute

Now let’s walk through it. 

V – Value 

Everything starts with value.  Are you clear on the value you bring? Are you communicating that value clearly in your weekly BNI or business networking commercial? 

A – Ask 

If you want referrals, you have to ask.  Be specific about who you’re looking for and what problem they have. 

L – Listen 

Great networkers don’t just talk — they listen.  When you listen closely, you hear opportunities to connect people. 

E – Empathy 

People do business with those who understand them.  Show that you care — not just that you can close. 

N – Network Intentionally 

Don’t just show up.  Be intentional about 1-to-1 meetings and building relationships. 

T – Testimonials 

Love your clients loudly.  Share success stories and social proof to build trust. 

I – Improve 

Fall in love with improving your skills.  Your presentation, your follow-up, your systems. 

N – Nurture 

Referrals are relationships. Stay in touch. Follow up. Care long term. 

E – Execute 

At the end of the day, take action.  Make the calls. Send the follow-ups. Book the meetings.
